BA Graphic & Digital Design

Aly Holland

My practice blends branding and creative coding to produce emotionally driven, inclusive design that explores neurodivergent experiences and mental health. I explore this through hybrid methods that merge design, code and experimentation to create responsive and inclusive visual outcomes. I aim to make visible experiences that are often overlooked, encouraging awareness, accessibility and connection through visual communication.

No Escape

No Escape is an immersive installation exploring psychological confinement, intrusive thoughts and sensory overload. Originally designed as a retro inspired game and later transformed into a video, the project combines distorted visuals and layered audio to simulate the experience of overwhelming internal voices. Inspired by early gaming aesthetics and psychological horror, monochrome green visuals are interrupted by red squares representing intrusive thoughts. Displayed on a CRT television within a darkened installation space surrounded by suspended red forms, the work invites audiences to experience confusion, tension and emotional intensity while reflecting on neurodivergence and mental overwhelm.

Design

The BA Graphic and Digital Design programme is rooted in experimentation across digital and analogue media, deep collaboration and a focused engagement with visual and material culture. We are a community of visual thinkers and makers, passionate about typography and language, narrative and storytelling, motion graphics and moving image, art direction, photography and image making. We understand design as broad and complex, multi-layered and detailed, crafted and accidental. Combining professional practice and creative research with technical skills, our programme develops curious students into designers of the future.
