BA Animation

Luke Brisenden

Hey there, I’m Luke, a 3D-centric animator constantly aiming to achieve new goals and styles within the medium, implementing my own unique style of 2D-esque toon shading into my work, making vibrant, striking animation. I’m always creating new characters, worlds and ways to improve my style and skills in general, and am incredibly passionate about the work I create! I hope you enjoy my work as much as I did making it!

The Great Fae Getaway

Utilising my techniques in 2D/3D hybrid animation, I have strived to and accomplished creating an animation which combines the wacky, comedic usage of slapstick comedy alongside a colourful, stylistic aesthetic.

My aim was to incapsulate the inconsequential physical humor and stakes that cartoons both today and in the past have portrayed, whilst also keeping a sense of danger and severity to grasp the viewer.

Utilising my style, I created flatter shading which would make the characters stand out and differentiate themselves from typical realism, as well as 2D effects to strengthen this notion further.

Transcript

Maple, a seemingly lost and normal girl finds herself in ‘The Tipsy Pixie’, a small London pub where she aims to travel to Cornwall, her home. Suddenly, a magical force calls out to her, specifically the Big Ben in the center of London, yet is quickly interrupted by two secret agents entering the pub. Asserting themselves as part of the ‘W.I.N.G.S’ unit, a task force dedicated to capturing and investigating mystical creatures, Maple tries to escape, and upon doing so, accidentally reveals herself as one of these creatures, a fairy. She now must avoid capture by the agents whilst making her way to the ethereal call of the Big Ben, her one and only chance of getting home.

Our BA Animation programme is one of the UK’s most forward-looking, industry-focused animation programmes. It combines a rich, practice-orientated mix of 2D, 3D and experimental animation with an emphasis on storytelling, character design, and immersive animation. Through a strong studio culture, our students develop and share skills across artistic direction, digital sculpting, industry-standard renderings, game design, visual effects, and innovative storytelling. The curriculum is designed to convey best practice in animation and a solid foundation for a career in the Creative Industries, with vocational skills development and student-led learning taking centre stage.
