This year Unit 1 will explore the power of storytelling. By extrapolating narrative into programmatic, tectonic and environmental agendas, you will become drawing board storytellers. Your portfolios will address issues of material, magic, narrative, fiction, sustainability and technology and will focus on resolving your ideas to an architectural conclusion. Through the medium of drawing, collage and model making you will become the author of your own architectural story.
Consider this. ‘The next generation of architects must immerse themselves within near future technologies and theories, before pollinating the city’s fabric with integrated, passive solutions. We must force out Roman technologies in order to promote demand for superior materials as the rising middle class of super economies has entered the fray, poised to drastically affect the fragile balance of both the world economy and environment. As human beings take yet more leaps into foreign domains both on our planet and beyond, the construction of space elevators, space stations and space ships that utilize cutting edge materials, forces us to ponder upon what impact they may have at a city scale on this planet. Welcome to the age of disclosure.

The MArch Architecture is a two-year full-time or three-year part-time programme offering exemption from ARB/RIBA Part 2. It combines rigorous professional training with creative and speculative design exploration. In the first year, students join a themed design unit to undertake a creative building design project combined with a technical and professional report. In the second year, students pursue a comprehensive speculative architectural design project, and an in-depth theoretical thesis tailored to their personal interest. The programme fosters independent thinking, innovation, theoretical and technical excellence, preparing graduates for advanced architectural practice and ongoing professional development in a dynamic global context.
