Subjects Of Desire

‘Subjects Of Desire’ explores the sexualisation black women face and have faced for centuries. It focuses on art and literature, looking at how black women have represented themselves compared to the various stereotypes thrust upon them. The project mainly focuses on black women’s views in contemporary society. The documentary includes two workshops, the word and collage workshop. Both workshops create vulnerable and authentic conversations beween black women of all ages, drawing from their own experiences as they discuss literature and create art. The purpose of our project is to inform audiences about the ongoing sexualisation of black women while also showcasing how art can be used as a form of self-expression for women who have faced sexualisation.
