As part of our cutting-edge music and sound curriculum, this ten-minute collaborative performance responded to the theme of Feedback—interpreted both sonically and conceptually. Students worked in groups to create an original piece, drawing from key ideas explored in the module, including experimental composition, non-linear structure, and live signal manipulation.
What set this project apart was its strong balance of individual artistry and collective creativity. Each performer contributed a solo section, allowing space for personal expression within a cohesive group dynamic. The piece broke away from traditional performance formats, revisiting sonic ideas in unexpected ways to create a sense of progression without relying on conventional structure.
Particularly notable was the sophisticated use of the no-input mixer, showcasing a high level of technical control and creative risk-taking. The group demonstrated a confident handling of complex sound material and an advanced command of live audio technology—skills that are increasingly vital in today’s experimental and hybrid music industries.
This project reflects the real-world collaborative environments our students are preparing to enter, where innovation, responsiveness, and technical proficiency go hand-in-hand. It’s one of many examples of how we support emerging artists in developing forward-thinking, industry-relevant sound practices.
