Women in Love: Living in a K-world

Transcript

When I watch the two of you, I fell in love I want it too. I want better, I want that. Can’t I have it I swear I can. This is my fantasy. I looked in your eyes and fell in love for the first time. You smiled at me and from then on you weren’t just a dream. This is my fantasy. You won’t take it away from me. I know it won’t come true, but a dream is just as good.

My final project is about how the concept of love has been shaped by the media we consume. While some representations suppress women’s role, fans endeavor to write their own narratives. Using aspects from the media they consume, fans write themselves into their romantic narratives, giving them power over their destiny and establishing new expectations. As part of this, I made an animation showing how media (in this case K-dramas and K-pop) can influence our romantic fantasies and leads to fans writing and sharing these fantasies.

Design

The BA Graphic and Digital Design programme is rooted in experimentation across digital and analogue media, deep collaboration and a focused engagement with visual and material culture. We are a community of visual thinkers and makers, passionate about typography and language, narrative and storytelling, motion graphics and moving image, art direction, photography and image making. We understand design as broad and complex, multi-layered and detailed, crafted and accidental. Combining professional practice and creative research with technical skills, our programme develops curious students into designers of the future.
