BA Landscape Architecture

Year 2:
Common Ground

description

This year our practice was formed around values derived from our exploration of the found object by searching, composing, casting, cutting and sketching, all of which helped definining ethos to help us frame designs based on an urban ecology. We asked ourselves, how can our practice be translated into more inclusive and accessible ecological systems? This culminated in a project which looked at the journey through treasure maps and speculated designs in an already developed urban setting. In term 2 we looked ‘inside’ out, starting with the school as a catalyst and then evolving our school playground designs to influence its context. The design codes identified not just as an inventory of rules, nor a comprehensive design, but a set of parameters for how the school playground would operate ecologically, socially and physically in a way that engaged the next generation of environmentally charged pupils.
