Hi, I’m Shayma, an artist and an aspiring director searching to draw untold stories and aim to be about to move people through art. I experiemnt with hybrid animation such as 2d and 3d.
My project showcases the 5 stages of childhood grief within a surreal environment, employing juxtaposition through a blend of cute and grotesque visuals. It uniquely combines 2D character animation within a 3D world.
You see a wall of screens showing a girl sleeping on the floor. The girl wakes up and picks up a teddy bear that is crying blood and has a wound on its back. Suddenly three larger teddy bears come to life and come towards the girl with sharp teeth, forks and knives in their hands. The girl runs in fear as she sees blood on her hands. The girl stops and searches her mind for a plan of action. One of the bears approaches her to attack her, she takes the ribbon from her dress, opens it in the air and transforms it into a giant lollipop, with which she attacks the bears. We see her fleeing down a flight of stairs where she is reunited with her teddy bear, who is still crying blood and who transforms into a lollipop in her hands.

Our BA Animation programme is one of the UK’s most forward-looking, industry-focused animation programmes. It combines a rich, practice-orientated mix of 2D, 3D and experimental animation with an emphasis on storytelling, character design, and immersive animation. Through a strong studio culture, our students develop and share skills across artistic direction, digital sculpting, industry-standard renderings, game design, visual effects, and innovative storytelling. The curriculum is designed to convey best practice in animation and a solid foundation for a career in the Creative Industries, with vocational skills development and student-led learning taking centre stage.
