BA Animation

Daniel Dyer

Hey, I’m Dan. I have a passion for retro 2D frame-by-frame animation as well as character design and visual storytelling.

Champions of Legend

My project is a throwback to 80s and 90s era of marketing toys to children through animated television shows.

While this has been looked upon as a selfish way to capitalise on children, many who grew up during this era remember it fondly and the characters (and toys) that came out of this marketing push still persist to this day.

My project is an opening sequence for a an animated series with original characters made with the intention of mimicking the style of that era, as well as 3D printing a toyline to go along side it.

Transcript

We see a sun and lightning coming out of it, falling on a rocky planet. We see three men leaning out from a hillside to see what is happening. We then see these same men in a workshop, where they are hammering and forging weapons. Then a group of 5 heroes are introduced one by one, each with distinctive weapons, the first man has a sword, the second has two pistols, the third has two katakanas, the fourth has a bow and arrow and the last has nunchuks. Once the heroes are introduced, the face of their enemy, a creature with red eyes and sharp teeth, is shown. At the end of the video the words Champions of legends are shown.

Our BA Animation programme is one of the UK’s most forward-looking, industry-focused animation programmes. It combines a rich, practice-orientated mix of 2D, 3D and experimental animation with an emphasis on storytelling, character design, and immersive animation. Through a strong studio culture, our students develop and share skills across artistic direction, digital sculpting, industry-standard renderings, game design, visual effects, and innovative storytelling. The curriculum is designed to convey best practice in animation and a solid foundation for a career in the Creative Industries, with vocational skills development and student-led learning taking centre stage.
